OWECC-L Signs Memoranda of Understanding with Civil Society Organizations to Advance the Establishment of War and Economic Crimes and National Anti-Corruption Courts.
Monrovia, Liberia - April 22,2026-Today marks another significant milestone in Liberia’s journey toward justice and accountability. The Office for the Establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court (OWECC-L) formally entered into Memoranda of Understanding with a broad coalition of civil society organizations, reinforcing a shared national commitment to advancing the country’s transitional justice agenda.
The signing ceremony brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Press Union of Liberia, Bless Foundation, the Federation of Liberian Youth, the National Bureau of Veteran Affairs, West Point Community, the Association of Judicial Reporters of Liberia, AWANGA, Liberia Muslim Women, and the Rescue Band Unit, among others.
Their collective engagement reflects a growing consensus across diverse sectors of society on the importance of establishing the War and Economic Crimes Court.
Delivering remarks at the ceremony, OWECC-L Executive Director, Dr. Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu, emphasized the inclusive and participatory nature of Liberia’s transitional justice process. He noted that sustainable peace and accountability can only be achieved when all voices are heard and all communities are actively involved.
Representatives of the participating organizations expressed strong support for the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to working alongside OWECC-L. They pledged to contribute their expertise, advocacy, and grassroots engagement to ensure that the establishment of the courts becomes a reality.
This collaboration signals a united front in the pursuit of justice, accountability, and national healing.
