Bong County, Liberia – April 24, 2026, The Executive Director of the Office for the Establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia (OWECC-L), Dr. Barbu has called on the Lutheran Church in Liberia to keep pushing for justice, accountability and reconciliation while spreading the gospel.
Speaking at the 21st Biennial Convention and 166th Anniversary of the Lutheran Church in Liberia (LCL) In front of a diverse audience that included religious leaders, government officials, and civil society representatives, Dr. Barbu highlighted the critical need for justice, accountability and reconciliation in Liberia.
Dr.Cllr. expressed deep respect for the over 250,000 lives lost during the civil war and called for a moment of silence to honor victims and support survivors still grappling with trauma.
Dr. Barbu underscored the importance of establishing the War and Economic Crimes Court and the National Anti-Corruption Court, emphasizing that these institutions are essential for achieving justice and healing.
He commended the LCL for its historical role as a beacon of hope during the nation’s darkest hours and urged church leaders to advocate for these courts from their pulpits.
"You have the power to transform lives through messages of truth, accountability, and forgiveness," he stated, encouraging the LCL to further engage in promoting justice.
He reiterated that healing is a collective effort requiring truth, accountability, and community involvement.
Dr. Barbu concluded by affirming the church’s indispensable role in Liberia’s journey toward healing, reminding attendees that “this is a national effort,” and everyone must contribute to building a just and peaceful society.
The convention, themed "United in Christ for the Healing of the Church and the Nation," served as a powerful reminder of the ongoing need for reconciliation in Liberia.
