DR. CLLR. JALLAH A. BARBU
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S GREETING
My fellow
Liberians, partners and advocates for the establishment of a Special War and
Economic Crimes Court and a Special Anti-Corruption Court for Liberia,
greetings.
As we
collaborate in the pursuit of full closure of our bitter experiences of our
more than fourteen years of civil crises and stand-up as a people resolved to
implant accountability and transparency in our way of life, please join me in
honoring the Sainted memories of all of those whose lives were taken, and in
reassuring the several thousands of those who are direct victim of the savagery
that characterized those dark days that their sufferings will not be left in
the abyss of impunity. We shall do well
to hold hands and walk side-by-side and work in unison to bring our decision to
establish these courts to a logical conclusion.
On behalf of the
OWECC-L and in my own name, recognition is in order for His Excellency
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s fulfilment of his promise to establish this
longed-for war and economic crimes court.
I am grateful for the extra-ordinary blessing to lead the process
through His Excellency’s preferment. I
note with particularity the enormity of the task, but most importantly, the
solemnity of the process to the existence and peace of our country and
generations to come. This is most
precisely an offspring of the sacrifices that our mothers and sisters, our
African and other international partners, and people of goodwill made to
silence the guns, restore civility and create the sacred opportunity for our
nation to hold those bearing the greatest responsibilities for atrocities,
abuses and human rights violations during the civil crises to come forth and
say why they cannot be held for their actions as war crimes.
Our mandate is
to lead the establishment of the WECC and SACC for Liberia. To lead is not to do; it is to manage the
process up to finality. Thus, this
process is built on inclusivity and prohibitive of any scintilla of
exclusivity. Every Liberian and other
people interested in a peaceful and just society, addressing impunity, and
working for transitional justice such that the legacy that results is one that
teaches all of us to respect the rule of law, no matter the situation or circumstance.
In view of our
holistic approach to leading this process, I respectfully appeal to everyone,
without any condition, to join and help to move this process to its logical
conclusion. I pledge my all, and assure
that with the Special Grace of God, we will over all prevail.
